Michael Owen is already backing the Gunners to exact revenge on Southampton for their EFL Cup exit when the Premier League sides meet in the FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s on Saturday evening.
Southampton were 2-0 winners against the north London side in the EFL Cup quarter-final at The Emirates in November, thereby denying Arsene Wenger and his team the chance of securing some much-needed silverware.
The Saints also eased to a 2-0 aggregate win against Liverpool in the last four, all thanks to Shane Long’s winner in a 1-0 win in the second leg of the last-four clash at Anfield last Wednesday night.
Southampton FC will now face Manchester United in the EFL Cup final at Wembley.
Arsenal on the other hand moved to within eight points of Premier League leaders Chelsea prior to their 2-1 victory against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
And Michael Owen, writing in his BetVictor column , tipped the Gunners to beat Southampton and progress to the fifth round of the cup competition.
“The Saints didn’t miss Virgil van Dijk at Anfield but they may be more vulnerable to the Gunners counter attacks back at St Mary’s and I think Arsenal will get revenge for their League Cup defeat.” Owen said.
Following their 2-0 League Cup win at the Emirates at the end of November, Southampton are set to become the first side since Manchester United in the early 80s to knock the Gunners out of both domestic cup competitions in the same season.
