Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has revealed that the opportunity to manage Italian Serie A giants AS Roma was too good to resist.

The ex-Chelsea boss talked about his decision to take the AS Roma job during his pre-match press conference ahead of his first game in charge of the team.

AS Roma will host Empoli on Monday night in what’s a Matchweek 27 Serie A clash billed for Stadio Olimpico.

Claudio Ranieri was named the manager of his boyhood club on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

During his press conference, the former Leicester City and AS Monaco manager revealed that he won’t have taken a short-term job if it was at another club.

He replaced Eusebio Di Francesco who was sacked last week after AS Roma crashed out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage.

The Italians were beaten by FC Porto on aggregate after an extra time penalty was awarded to the Portuguese team with the help of VAR.

Alex Telles converted the penalty to give FC Porto a 3-1 home win over AS Roma at the end of the extra time of their last 16 second leg clash in the Champions League thus giving the hosts a 4-3 win on aggregate.

AS Roma had won the first leg 2-1 but FC Porto were able to turn it around.

Claudio Ranieri took the AS Roma job just days after he was sacked as the Fulham manager.
