La Liga star break silence amid Manchester United and Chelsea transfer links

Spain international Sergi Roberto intends to remain at FC Barcelona despite rumours linking him with Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea.

Roberto played a pivotal role for the Catalan club last season but was said to be considering his future at the La Liga club following the arrival of Paulinho from Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande last week.

Roberto, 25, has a £36million release clause in his current Barcelona contract and Premier League rivals Man United and Chelsea have been strategizing on how to lure him to the Premier league.

However, the midfielder insists he is ‘happy’ at Camp Nou and wants to become an even more prominent player for boss Ernesto Valverde this season.

Speaking after Barcelona’s 2-0 La Liga victory over Real Betis on Sunday, the Premier League target – who scored the second goal of the match– said: ‘I’m happy, [I was happy against Real Madrid in the Super Cup] on a personal level and I (Sergio) felt comfortable today, too.

Barcelona manager Valverde has also reiterated his stance that Sergio Roberto remains an important member of his squad, saying: ‘I (Valverde) am counting on him (Sergio).

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has signed striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton, midfielder Nemanja Matic from Chelsea and Victor Lindelof this summer transfer window, but has space to bring in another quality player to the club.

The Blues, meanwhile, have been told by manager Antonio Conte to sign three or four more quality players before the transfer window slams shut.
