Mamadou Sakho’s Liverpool future has been thrown into doubt after the France defender was sent home from their tour of the United States amid doubts about his attitude.
Sakho has endured a troubled year, first missing the end of the season – including Liverpool’s Europa League final and the European Championship with France – due to a drugs ban, the results of which still remain uncertain with WADA considering whether to contest the verdict
The 26-year-old then suffered an injury on his return to training for the Reds, but still travelled on their pre-season tour of the US.
However, according to the Liverpool Echo, the Frenchman has now been sent home after causing trouble in the club’s training camp.
James Pearce writes:
‘Sakho had been receiving treatment on an Achilles injury, which will rule him out of the start of the Premier League season.
‘However, the ECHO understands that concerns had been raised about the 26-year-old’s attitude around the club’s training camp in California and that’s prompted his swift return to the UK.
‘Sakho was booked on the same overnight flight to Heathrow as left-back Brad Smith, who is en route to Bournemouth to undergo a medical ahead of completing a £6million move.
‘Liverpool confirmed that the former Paris Saint-Germain captain had flown home but declined to comment on the reasons behind the decision.’
The Daily Mail are among those reporting that the latest setback in his career has plunged Sakho’s future at Anfield into doubt.
Dominic King adds that manager Jurgen Klopp ‘has been working hard to get a rapport amongst a squad that has seen seven new faces arrive,’ and Sakho is seemingly threatening that.
