Aston Villa boss, Roberto Di Matteo is facing two crucial games this week as he bids to save his job yet again.

Di Matteo’s future has been plunged into doubt after a difficult start to the season and he is under pressure to win, at least, one of their forthcoming away games, at Barnsley and Preston, to avoid being sacked by the Championship club.

Villa spent over £50 million on new signings over the summer to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion but new owner Tony Xia is growing increasingly concerned by results, which he wants to change immediately

With only one win from nine league games, Di Matteo is seven points off the play-offs and Xia is considering making a change in less than two months into the season.

Villa face Barnsley on Tuesday night before travelling to Deepdale this weekend and it is understood that a failure to win any one of those games could see the Champions League winner axed over the international break.

Di Matteo, a Chelsea legend, was appointed by Xia in June, shortly after he (Xia) completed a £65 million takeover of the team that had finished bottom of the Premier League last season.
Roberto Di Matteo has managed West Bromwich Albion, Chelsea FC both in England and Schalke 04 in Germany. He’s been sacked in the last 2 clubs despite leading Chelsea to their only Champions League title in history.
