Reports in the British media claim that Wayne Rooney could have the England captaincy taken from him. This comes after the Manchester United star was pictured drinking during the international break.
The forward attended a wedding party at the hotel of the National team but pictures showed him looking like he had too much to drink. The English Football Association are now looking into claims that Rooney did not listen to the request of England interim manager Gareth Southgate.
It is believed that Southgate told Rooney along with two staff member of the England FA that it was time to go and retire for the night only for the captain to go back to the party. Photographs of Rooney then surfaced with claims he continued drinking till five in the morning.
The situation has led to the FA imposing a stringent ban on drinks and also stating that in the future players will not be allowed to go out at night during international duty.
Now the England interim manager is expected to take the captaincy from Rooney and this could leave his international future in doubt.
The FA claims that no decision has been made to remove Rooney as captain as there is no manager in place to make such a decision until the future of Southgate is resolved.
Rooney has come out to apologize for what he did but it seems Southgate is already looking for a player who will take over from Rooney’s captaincy.
