Former Arsenal player and football pundit Paul Merson has urged the North London side to give star duo Alexi Sanchez and Mesut Ozil new contracts at the club.
Chilean forward Sanchez and German playmaker Ozil are presently locked in a contract extension talks with their respective contracts scheduled to expire in 18 months time in the summer of 2018.
Speaking about their contract impasse with Arsenal on talksport, Merson, who scored 99 goals in 425 games for Arsenal said: “They need to get these two players signed up in my opinion – for me, they have to sign these two.”
“They are their best players by a mile and if they don’t sign them up, I don’t know where Arsenal go from there.
“You wouldn’t buy a season ticket,” said Merson. “What’s the point if you are going to sell these kinds of players?
“It would be a worrying time for Arsenal. They pay top dollar these fans so they need to see top dollar players.” he concluded.
Ozil has been in sensational form for the Gunners with 10 goals in all competitions and he is not far behind club’s topscorer Alexis Sanchez, who has 13 goals, as both have led Arsenal to the top of the table as well as the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) with the draws slated for Monday morning.
