According to The Independent, Real Madrid’s interest in David de Gea of Manchester United seems to have finally vanished and they are now plotting a switch for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Playing catch up
Real Madrid have fallen adrift runaway La Liga leaders FC Barcelona in this campaign despite comprehensively winning the league last term.
One of Real Madrid’s biggest undoing this campaign has been their defensive figures; a total of 23 goals conceded in 22 league matches has seen lower-positioned teams earn points against the reigning Champions League winners, and it looks like Los Blanco seek a new safe hand in an attempt to challenge the Catalan side again next term.
Courtois now prime target
Los Blanco have been chasing Spain international David de Gea for some time and missed out on the goalkeeper in 2015 after a problem with the tax machine caused the move to fall through. Now, it looks like Belgium safe hand Thibaut Courtois is the prime target for Real coach Zinedine Zidane and it’s believed that a sum of £100million could be enough to secure the signature of the former La Liga goalie. With Courtois, 25, contract running out when the season ends, the former Atletico loanee may fancy life back in the La Liga.
