Pundit: Antonio Conte might not stay beyond this season at Chelsea

Jamie Carragher

Sky Sports football pundit Jamie Carragher says he’ll be surprised if Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte is still at Stamford Bridge in a year’s time.

Conte guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in his debut campaign but has stated he expects the next season to be the toughest of his coaching career after reportedly growing frustrated by Chelsea’s summer transfer business.

And the pundit reckons the former Italy National team head coach is not impressed with having major transfer decisions taken out of his reach by the club’s Chief.

Since Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the West London club in 2003, Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho has twice been sacked as manager, while big coaches such as Carlo Ancelotti, Luiz Felipe Scolari, and Claudio Ranieri lasted less than two seasons under the Russian who recently announced his divorce with his wife.

Carragher says Mr. Abramovich and technical director Nigerian Michael Emenalo will not be afraid to change Head Coach again, despite Antonio Conte’s success last campaign.

The Blues have splashed £70 million on Striker Alvaro Morata and £34m on defender Antonio Rudiger, while they signed midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko for £40 million before selling Serbian Nemanja Matic to rivals Manchester United for a similar transfer fee.

Carragher believes the sale of Nemanja Matic, who has won two Premier League titles with the Blues, shows the difference in thinking between Antonio Conte and his bosses at Stamford Bridge.
