According to reports spreading in Portugal this week, Manchester United have agreed a £35m deal in principle to sign Benfica star right-back Nelson Semedo in the coming summer.
A Portuguese outlet Noticias ao Minuto insisted that Semedo will join Man United in the summer as Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira did not want to let the classic defender to go in January because his teammate Goncalo Guedes had already joined Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain.
22-year-old Semado is a right-back who Man United were heavily linked with in the January transfer window. So this is not the first time his name is being heard – and won’t definitely be the last too.
United were also heavily linked with a move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof in the January window. The Portuguese press in fact assured us he’s coming to Old Trafford – but he didn’t join. We will wait to see if he would eventually become a United player.
Many United fans would agree that the right-back is one of the Club’s most solid positions. Valencia has been good in that role, so we think Mourinho has no need to spend much to sign a new one considering that there are bigger issues in the squad presently.
