No goals, no spark, no confidence : It’s time for Maurizio Sarri to drop this player

Willian

Brazilian winger Willian has been experiencing a drop in form in recent weeks but Maurizio Sarri still has so much trust in his ability.

Despite many calls on Sarri to drop the player from his starting lineup, the Italian started Willian in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

He was far from his best and he didn’t have any meaningful impact on the team’s display throughout the time he spent on the pitch.

He was deployed at the right wing of the attack by Maurizio Sarri but he hardly made any cross into the Foxes 18-yard box neither did he beat his marker in one-vs-one situations.

His ineffectiveness against Leicester was obviously seen and the highest of them was his hilarious corner kick in the first half of the encounter.

His poor corner kick put Twitter into total meltdown as Chelsea fans couldn’t imagine their former brilliant winger could take a corner in such a manner.

TIME TO DROP THE BRAZILIAN FROM STARTING XI

Should he continue to get regular game-time, Willian won’t know there is an urgent need to up his game.

Sarri must begin to let him know that no player has a permanent spot in the team, hence, the need to drop the player from his starting eleven in their next game against Watford at the Vicarage road on Wednesday.

A certain Ruben Loftus-Cheek is ‘wasting’ on the substitute bench and he deserves to be given a chance. The young England striker was wonderful against Bournemouth last week in the EFL Cup as he helped the team get pass the Cherries by a lone goal.

Despite his wonderful display, Sarri didn’t count him worthy of a place in the team but that has got to change as soon as possible if he wants to get the best from Willian.

Once the out-of-form 30-year-old see his place is under huge pressure, he will definitely improve his game before the end of the season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is another player capable of replacing Willian in Sarri’s starting lineup. The youngster is not getting more game-time but Sarri is unwilling to release him neither on a loan deal nor a permanent deal.

The 18-year-old winger has endured a frustrating first half of the season and he’s looking to change things in the second period of the season.

He is yet to feature in any Premier League game but has had a handful of games in Europa League and in EFL Cup competition.

His performances in few games he has played for the club were nothing short of brilliant but they were insufficient to make Sarri look in his direction while making his team list.

Whoever get the nod to start between Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi deserves to be given a benefit doubt. The most important thing is that Willian is dropped from the first XI
