Experienced journalist Ian McGarry has revealed that Liverpool didn’t make any bid for Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne as widely reported.
Recent reports had said that the Reds had a £61m bid rejected for Lorenzo Insigne and that the bid was lodged through an intermediary who happened to be super agent Mino Raiola.
Ian McGarry spoke about Liverpool and Lorenzo Insigne on Transfer Window podcast as monitored by the Daily Star.
He said that his Liverpool friends told him that only an inquiry was made about the player’s availability in the summer.
Liverpool will most need to spend more than the aforementioned £61m bid if they want to sign the 27-year-old attacker in the summer.
The Italian international star is rated £140m by Napoli.
Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in a move for Insigne as they prepare for life without Eden Hazard from this summer onwards.
Hazard, 28, will have one year left on his Chelsea deal in the summer and that would put the Blues in a sticky situation with the Belgian not ready to sign a new contract at the club.
Chelsea may have to sell him in the summer amidst strong interest in the player from European champions Real Madrid.
