Bayern Munich new signing Niklas Sule has revealed that Premier League champions Chelsea were also interested in his signature, but he ignored their offer to come to Munich.
Sule is one of the most highly rated young players in Germany and has agreed to move to Bayern Munich, although he has remained at Hoffenheim until now.
Before making the decision to join the Bundesliga champions, the 21-year-old defender had also been the subject of interest from Chelsea. However, the defender ignored the sparks of the English top flight with its financial might but moved ahead to Bayern instead.
Niklas, who is also part of Germany’s young Confederations Cup squad, will compete with Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels next term at Bayern Munich.
Speaking to Sport Bild, the German confirmed there was interest from the Premier League champions, but he believes Bayern Munich was the right step for him.
We could have concluded that Sule avoided the premier league because, as a youngster, he might find it difficult settling in England. However, he said moving to England would have been quite easy for him, but he wanted to stay in the Bundesliga and prove himself at Bayern Munich.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is still on the lookout for a new centre-back and remains in the market for a superb one this summer.
