Nicklas Bendtner signs for Nottingham Forest

Nicklas Bendtner

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has penned a two-year contract with Nottingham Forest, the club’s owner has announced.

The striker, who began his professional career at Arsenal, spent nine years at the club between 2005 and 2014, but struggled for first-team football and was shipped out on loan to Birmingham City, Sunderland and Juventus during that time.

Bendtner could be set for a return to the Emirates as Forest have been drawn at home to Arsenal in the EFL Cup later this month.

Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi confirmed the striker’s arrival, saying on Twitter: “Please welcome Nicklas Bendtner who has joined #NFFC on a two-year deal.”

The Danish forward becomes the 12th new arrival at the City Ground following the appointment of Philippe Montanier as head coach and he could be up for selection with the team to play Aston Villa on Sunday.

He scored 24 league goals in 108 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s men and has found the back of the net 29 times in 72 outings for his country.
