Nemanja Matic

According to British media reports, Out-of -Favour Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has undergone a medical at Manchester United ahead of a 40-million-pound transfer that will reunite him with former boss Jose Mourinho.

The midfield maestro was pictured at the Manchester United’s Carrington Road training complex on Sunday, with media reporting that a transfer would be announced on Monday.

It will be the second time that the Serbian, who turns 29 on Tuesday, has played under Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho. Mourinho first signed the midfielder when he was Chelsea boss, for 21 million pounds back in Jan. 2014.

Nemanja Matic, who had originally joined Chelsea in 2009 before joining Benfica in 2011, became an influential part of Chelsea’s title-winning side under Jose Mourinho back in 2014-15.

However, Serbian international who is capped 32-times was among those under-performing badly in Jose Mourinho’s last season at the Bridge before becoming a regular starter as new boss Antonio Conte took the Blues to another title last campaign.

This month the Blues have signed Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and, probably sensing his position was under threat, the Serbian declined to extend his contract which had 24 months remaining to run.

Matic will reunite with ex Blues midfield maestro Juan Mata and compete strongly with Englishman Michael Carrick and Belgian Marouane Fellaini for a regular spot.

Matic’s arrival follows Jose Mourinho’s unsuccessful move for Spur’s Eric Dier as Manchester United seek to mount a serious challenge on the Premier League title for the first time since the exit of Alex Ferguson in 2013.

Earlier on Manchester United have completed a 30-million-pound for defender Victor Lindelof from Matic’s former club Benfica and paid Everton a whopping 75 million pounds for Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku.
