We Need To Appreciate These Two United Players Before They Finally Leave

Manchester United defender Phil Jones said that the current Manchester United squad ought to appreciate the presence of the duo of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick before both of them hang up their boots at the Old Trafford club.

Wayne Rooney finally equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record last weekend and has made 14 Premier League appearances so far this season for the red devils.

Micheal Carrick too is a regular key player in Jose Mourinho present team this season, even though his contract expires at the end of the season.

Jones speaking about the duo, insists that younger players should not take the pair for granted.

“We’ve got to appreciate him while he’s here now,” he told manutd.com

“He’s a fantastic player for what he’s done for club and country, and for football in general. Everyone looks up to him. He’s a world-class player and he will go down in history.

“Those two are so influential in the dressing room. We take them for granted now that they are here. But when they are not here anymore in the years to come we will look back and say ‘we could do with them now.’ So we need to appreciate them now.”

Manchester United squad contains just seven players that thrived when Sir Alex Ferguson was still boss, and Rooney and Carrick the only members left from the Champions League winning side of 2008.

The presence of Rooney and Carrick under Mourinho serves as the only reasonable link between this current side and the Ferguson era in its full bloom. Good old days!
