Rooney in the last few days has been involved in some controversies after photograph surfaced during the week of the midfielder appearing to have had too much to drink which had led to the England international facing a lot of criticism.
A photograph of the Manchester United captain looking drunk was published by the Sun newspaper who stated that the forward was awake till 5am in the morning having drinks at a private wedding celebrating England’s 3-0 win over Scotland in a world cup qualifier last Friday.
The 31-year-old started the world cup qualifier against Scotland but he suffered a knee injury and was withdrawn from the England national team squad and missed the 2-2 draw against Spain on Tuesday night.
Speaking ahead of the match, Mourinho revealed that the player is ready to play if called upon.
He said
“Over the last two or three days nothing happened,” He trained and wants to play. He is ready. What happened in the national team I don’t comment on. He belonged to the national team.
I don’t interfere for good or bad. Sometimes players come back stronger than when they left because something positive happened.
“Other times they are not as strong because of injuries or frustration because result was bad. We know what didn’t go well but it is a different chapter that is closed until March.”
