Manchester United have surprisingly won the race for the signature of Romelu Lukaku, and the Belgium international has revealed that Frenchman Paul Pogba played a crucial role in his decision to make the Old Trafford move by putting the idea into his head.
Premier league champions Chelsea were believed to be leading the race for the talented striker before Jose Mourinho’s side confirmed officially that they had agreed a fee with his club.
Lukaku is yet to formally join United, but is already explaining why he made the decision to join the Europa League winners.
Speaking to ESPN, the Belgian revealed his relationship with Pogba had been for about seven or eight years, and since they both stay in Manchester now and in the same area, they are always together on a daily basis.
‘He was explaining to me how it went at the club, and it triggered something in my head. When the opportunity came, I didn’t have to think twice. I’m really excited.’ he said.
Pogba has been around the player just before the announcement of the move was made known as both trained together in the United States.
Jose Mourinho sold the 24-year-old back then in 2014 to Everton, and he has gone on to become one of the best strikers in the premier league, scoring a total of 86 goals in 166 appearances for Everton.
