Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he is hurt due to the fact that he had to leave Dutch winger Memphis Depay and English winger Ashley Young from his squad for the EFL Cup quarter-final clash with West Ham on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic and French star Anthony Martial scored two goals apiece while Henrikh Mkhitaryan produced another scintillating performance as Manchester United thrashed West Ham 4-1 to seal a semi-final spot against Hull City.
The home side were dominant throughout the game, which also saw the return of German captain Bastian Schweinsteiger to the first team as an 84th minute substitute, as they got 57% of the possession in addition to having 10 shots on target from 19 shots taken.
Speaking after the game on the high profile omissions from his squad, Mourinho, who also started Spanish playmaker Juan Mata and young England forward Marcus Rashford said: “It hurts me, it hurts me. It hurts me a lot to leave [Memphis] Depay and Ashley Young at home.”
“It hurts me a lot like last week, when I had to leave out [Anthony] Martial, and next week I’ll leave another one.
“We have so many players for these positions and it’s good for me but it’s bad for them. Football players want to play matches and I cannot give to everyone at the same time, so it hurts me.” he further stated.
