According to reports, Arsenal and Germany superstar playmaker Mesut Ozil has turned down a new contract with the North London club, instead offering himself up to Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.
The Germany international midfielder is reportedly refusing to pen down a new deal with the Emirate club as he tries to force through a transfer to Barcelona.
The 28-year-old is into the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and is seeking a significant rise in his current wage of £140,000 under his next deal.
Arsenal are recently believed to have offered the former Real Madrid midfielder a new contract worth £225,000 weekly amid a lack of interest in Ozil from top clubs around Europe.
According to a report on Don Balon, Ozil’s representative has now ‘offered him to FC Barcelona,’ who are in the transfer market for new players following the world transfer record departure of Neymar Jr for French Ligue 1 runner up Paris Saint-Germain.
La Liga side FC Barcelona are thought to be “considering” the transfer, having seemingly failed in their efforts to sign Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele.
Before he joined Arsenal, the former Bayern Munich midfielder spent three years with bitter rivals Real Madrid, playing 159 matches in all competitions and finding the net 27 times.
