Chelsea hero Mario Melchiot has revealed the tons of options before he decided to make the move to the Stamford Bridge club.
Mario who joined Chelsea in 1999 revealed that there are other top Premier League clubs chasing him before he chose Chelsea.
The year-2000 Chelsea Charity Shield hero revealed that Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier came to Netherlands to hold talks with him to try persuading him away from his then club Ajax to Anfield.
He added that both West Ham and Manchester United were also interested in him before the Chelsea offer.
Mario reveals that Gerard Houllier actually flew to Amsterdam and sat down to held talks with his agent – and he would have ended up in Liverpool.
He added that the then manager of West Ham Harry Redknapp also made an offer for him, but he ignored all when Chelsea came for him.
Currently, Chelsea are at the top of the premier league table and are still firm favourites to win the title at the end of this season, with just four games to go.
The Stamford Bridge club are set to play in the Champions League next season, and have been linked with a handful of superb players who are likely to shun other offers to come play with one of the best clubs in Europe.
