Manchester United player Marcus Rashford has opened up about his favourite position at the club, saying he preferred the No.9 role.
Rashford burst into the global scene last season with a series of fine performances up front when Louis van Gaal was still boss, and he even earned a place in the England squad ahead of the European Championship in France.
However under new Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, the teenager has featured primarily as a winger with Swede star Zlatan Ibrahimovic cementing himself as the team’s first choice No.9.
Rashford, speaking to Marca recently, insisted that he enjoyed playing at No.9 more but however made it clear that playing on the wing was important for his development.
“I don’t mind playing either,” he said “but I prefer to play as a number 9. I think it is easier to score goals. Of course, playing at the side also helps me to develop in the middle, as a striker. It is an important part.”
This is becoming more like a norm that have been in existence for some times in the world of football.
Many youngsters, once they break into the first team, find themselves being forced to play in unusual positions. But while many of them struggled in their new roles, Rashford like a few others, flourished in his new role where he keeps demonstrating the same levels of raw power and fearlessness on the side that we saw last season. This of course will help him to excel in the long run.
