Marcus Rashford look set for a place in the England squad for Euro 2016 as his impressive displays has caught the attention of England manager Roy Hodgson since he joined with the rest of the team last week.

The United man struck inside three minutes on his England debut, sending his team on their way to a 2-1 win over Australia in a friendly on Friday.

The Manchester United striker has also impressed with his skill and trickery, his temperament and his willingness to adapt and play anywhere across the forward line when required and can fill the void left by the injury to Danny Welbeck which has so affected England’s plans for France.

The England coaching staff are, meanwhile, enthusing about Rashford – who has signed a new contract with United to cap an extraordinary breakthrough season having only made his first-team debut in March – and there is excitement about what he might achieve for his country.

Rashford has also drawn praise from his England team-mates. “I’ve been impressed,” said full-back Nathaniel Clyne. “He’s a quality young striker. As you saw on Friday (against Australia), it doesn’t faze him at all. He scored on his debut and he’s a promising young talent.

“He’s definitely confident. He looks sharp in training. You saw on Friday he was sharp in the game. He got the goal and he’s looking to improve as a player. He’s got a lot of potential.”

Defender John Stones also praised Rashford and said he was impressed by just how calm the teen forward was staying.

“I was so happy for him. I just said to the other guys there, such a young lad, to score on his debut, he took it so well,” he said.

“He’s just been so calm and cool about it in the change room, which for such a young lad, it’s hard to get your head around. We’re all over the moon for him.”
