Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that Marcus Rashford is having a dip in form, and ‘he is desperate’ to improve.
The 19-year-old was a standout figure for United last season, breaking into the first team with impressive displays in the Premier League and even in Europe, which led to him cementing a starting spot at the Old Trafford under former boss Louis Van Gaal.
Rashford has not been able to repeat his brilliance from last season, and lack of action so far under Jose Mourinho who has preferred veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the central striker role. The Portuguese boss has deployed Rashford to the flanks for most part of the season where he has struggled.
Jose Mourinho has now defended the youngster’s dip in form, he said: ‘It’s easy to see the kid is desperate. He tries,’ Mourinho said. ‘It’s not a surprise for me – the second year after the first one by surprise.
‘It’s something that maybe one day I will try to find (out) if it happened the same with … Ryan Giggs or some of these guys that appeared as a kid and then the next year probably it’s not the same.
‘But the kid is phenomenal, (an) amazing professional, so no problem.’
