Manchester United Are Too Reliant On This Player – Pundit Claims

Charlie Nicholas thinks Manchester United are too reliant on huge man and summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The former Sweden international moved to the Old Trafford club in a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the summer following the appointment of new Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho in May.

Manchester United have made reasonable progress in the cup competitions in recent weeks after their 3-2 aggregate win against Hull City in the EFL Cup semi-final and a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic too in the FA Cup fourth round.

For both of the games, Jose rested Ibrahimovic, after the 35-year-old striker scored 14 times in his opening 21 matches in the 2016-17 Premier League season so far. He has additionally also found the net four times in the cup competitions.

Now speaking to Sky Sports about United’s lack of activity in the recently concluded January transfer window, Nicholas accused the Old Trafford club of being too reliant on Ibrahimovic.

“They spent big in the summer. Has Jose Mourinho got it right? The structure and organisation are there but I don’t think they are exciting. They are [too] reliant on Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I’m not surprised [that] Wayne Rooney is staying put but I expect him to go at the end of the season,” he said.
