According to latest reports, Manchester United have rejected a bid from Ligue 1 side Lyon for Memphis Depay.
A report in The Daily Mail revealed that the French side put in an initial bid of £13m with other bonus payments added.
However, Manchester United are adamant that they won’t accept anything less than £17.5m. The standard fee set by the red devils seems to be beyond the reach of the Lyon board.
Back in June 2015, former boss Louis van Gaal paid PSV Eindhoven £25m to secure the winger’s signature. Unfortunately before the end of last season, he had dropped out of the first team picture.
Now coach Jose Mourinho has decided that Depay was surplus to requirements but he finding a buyer that is willing to match the terms of his four year contract won’t be easy.
A handful of Premiership clubs have expressed an interest in taking Depay on loan but the Portuguese boss has insisted stubbornly that none of his first team squad are to go out on loan this month.
This season so far, Depay is yet to start a single Premier League match for the Old Trafford club but has four substitute appearances. The player would love going to other places where he can get regular playing time, and we hope Mourinho won’t deny him the chance.
