Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal that will see AS Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva arrive at the Old Trafford this summer despite keen interest from fierce rivals, Manchester City.
The 23-year-old has been a key performer for the Ligue 1 side in the title-winning campaign in France, scoring eight goals so far and has been tipped to leave the club to join Premier League with keen interest from the two Manchester clubs.
Reports in the French outlet Le 10 Sport claim that United have moved ahead of their local rivals, City in the pursuit of the Portuguese as the both wants to thrash out a deal for the midfielder as a step in bolstering their squad next season.
It is understood that Silva has decided to leave Monaco this summer and has sights on joining Manchester United ahead of City.
Reports in Get French Football News suggest that the Red Devils have started the initial process of signing the midfielder in a bid to beat other rivals in the pursuit.
The Portuguese midfielder had earlier hinted at a potential deal by saying: “I read the papers, but for now there is nothing concrete. I already said that I felt good in Monaco, but everything is possible,”
