Manchester City sign fourth player for £26.5m from Real Madrid; spent £150m already this summer

Premier League giant Manchester City have secured the signing of defender Danilo from Real Madrid for a transfer fee thought to be £26.5m.

The Brazil international has signed a five-year contract and will join Manchester City on their pre-season training tour of the United States of America.

The 26-year-old versatile player can play in both full-back positions, as well as in midfield, and is the Skye Blue’s fourth major signing of the summer transfer window.

His arrival takes the club’s summer transfer spending to about £150m, following the acquisition of England international Kyle Walker for £45m, Portuguese Bernardo Silva for £43m and Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson Moraes for £35m.

The Etihad club have also agreed a £52m transfer for 23-year-old defender Benjamin Mendy from Monaco and sold left-back Aleksandar Kolarov to AS Roma for £4.5m.

Danilo’s transfer is subject to him receiving a work permit, meaning he might not make his City debut when they face Real on Wednesday in the America City of Los Angeles.

The defender joined Real Madrid in 2015 from FC Porto but started just 17 La Liga matches last campaign.

In his two years at the Santiago Bernabeu, he won the Spanish La Liga title, two UEFA Champions Leagues, the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup.
