Manager admits Liverpool target can leave in January

Moyes has admitted that holding onto his 22-year-old goalkeeper if the big clubs come with deep pockets for Pickford.

Pickford is seen as Joe Hart’s successor as England’s number one. So it’s no surprise that he is seen to be worth about £20m or there about.

Neither is it a secret that the amount won’t deter English big teams should they be interested in the 22-year-old. Sunderland’s opponent today -Liverpool- is believed to be an interested party.

And Moyes admitted there isn’t much he can do: “If he keeps performing at the level he is, I’m sure he’s going to draw attention from big clubs”

Memories of the deal that took Rooney to Manchester United are still fresh in The black cat bosses mind as he feels Pickford’s case can easily go same way.

“I hope it won’t be too difficult a situation in January,” said Moyes. “But sometimes on the journey of building clubs up, these things happen.

“I can only tell the story from Everton because Wayne was the same.

“We got a big offer from Manchester United. We fought it and I was saying we were not selling.

“But, ultimately, the sale helped us try to do the right things.

“The difference is that Jordan is one of our own home-grown players and we certainly wouldn’t be in a hurry to do it.

Moyes had managed some top sides in the premier league,he was formerly an Everton boss but then moved to Manchester United following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. He had a torrid time at Manchester and was sacked within months of taking over from the Scot.
