Harry Redknapp thinks Wayne Rooney should leave Manchester United and return to Everton so as to help turn the Toffees into a top-four side.
Rooney became Manchester United’s record goal-scorer on Saturday afternoon after the he scored his 250th goal to salvage a 1-1 draw with Stoke City in added time at the Britannia Stadium.
The England international has found his first-team opportunities limited under Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho this season after two goals and five assists in 16 games in the Premier League – eight of those appearances have come from the bench.
The 31-year-old moved to the Old Trafford club in a big-money deal from Everton in 2004 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still boss.
West Ham United manager Redknapp, speaking to talkSPORT on Monday morning offered Rooney some advice about the next step in his distinguished Premier League career.
Redknapp said Mourinho doesn’t see Rooney as a starter because the Portuguese doesn’t think he is better than Zlatan. So Rooney should consider having one more challenge and should go somewhere where he is wanted and end up becoming a big player.
“He could go back to his own club Everton. He is an Everton fan. Go back there, finish your career there and take Everton into the Champions League positions. He could go there and turn them into a top four club. He could make the difference.” He said.
The Manchester United captain is also England’s leading goal-scorer ahead of Sir Bobby Charlton and Gary Lineker.
