Manchester United are continuing to pursue Paul Pogba as Jose Mourinho sets out his intent to secure at least four summer signings.
Mourinho has prioritised signing Pogba but reports suggest the manager is doubtful whether or not the club can secure one of the most highly-sought players of the moment.
Nonetheless, United remain confident that they will be able to make a statement signing as the club prepares for the new season.
Sources told Manchester Evening News that Mourinho expects the club to clinch a deal that “will make everyone sit up straight”.
The club has already signed Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly – who joined from Villarreal – but Mourinho continues to target a right midfielder, as well as a striker and a central midfielder.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, recently admitted that a move to Manchester United would be “fascinating” but remarked that the player had expressed particular interest in Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid .
“Will Pogba leave Juventus?” Raiola told Premium Sport .
“Paul has to grow. He’s at Juve now, so any transfer must be run past Juventus.
“I’ve said that he likes Zidane, Real Madrid is fascinating as are Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, [Manchester] City, Chelsea and also Juve.”
The 23-year-old, who has enjoyed a mixed Euro 2016 so far, left Old Trafford for Serie A four years ago.
Although Pogba remains an ambitious target for the club, United can expect to close in on Zlatan Ibrahimovic now that Sweden have been eliminated from Euro 2016.
United are also stepping up their efforts to secure the signature of Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan
