In the world of football, there are certain ‘special silent players’ in each team.
Let me describe these crop of players properly.
They are regulars in a team and their presence is not too felt by fans and they rarely win awards and what have you. Nevertheless, if anything happened and they couldn’t play (perhaps get injured or suspended), a big hole will appear in the team, the team will get unbalanced, and a perfect replacement for them won’t be easily found.
One of such players is Chelsea star Marcos Alonso.
He is a ‘silent success’ (no much award or what have you), but so instrumental in the team. When he couldn’t feature in his side’s 2-0 loss to Man United at Old Trafford, they really missed him.
He arrived at Chelsea from Fiorentina last summer, and he has been a regular fixture in Antonio Conte’s squad this current campaign. In 29 premier league appearances for the west London club, he has scored six times and has provided three assists.
He fitted into Antonio’s 3-4-3 formation this term, and has contributed both in defence and attack for the Stamford Bridge club.
And he has caught the attention of some keen observers, including former Man United former defender Gary Neville.
The former defender states that he is a big fan of Marcos, and that the summer signing has very much impressed him this term in Conte’s squad.
