Liverpool vs Manchester United: Who should start at right-back for Liverpool?

Man United vs liverpool

The Injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez has put Jurgen Klopp into a difficult situation ahead of Manchester United’s clash on Sunday.

The Reds welcome the Red Devils to Anfield but Klopp is definitely in a confused state of mind as to who should start at the right-back position against the Red Devils.

Though the Old Trafford outfits have been unimpressive till date, they still possess some deadly and pacy strikers that must be closely marked by Klopp’s men.

Marcus Rashford is surely one of United’s in-form players and he’s likely to operate from the left flank of attack, therefore, Klopp must start a very mobile, physical and intelligent player at the right-back so as to curtail Rashford’s threats.

James Milner

In last week’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, James Milner, who was making his 500 Premier League appearances, was made to play out of position as he featured at the right-back.

However, Sunday’s clash would be a very different scenario, hence, deploying the England international at the right-back might be Klopp’s greatest undoing heading into the game.

Naby Keita

Summer signing Naby Keita is definitely the best option available to Klopp as he plans to prevent Rashford from influencing the outcome of the game.

Brought from RB Leipzig in the summer, Keita hasn’t really lived up to his billings under Klopp. The Guinean international is yet to reach his maximum potentials with the team, though, he’s improved a bit more in recent weeks.

As much as it appears to be a risky gamble, the Reds are going to benefit a lot should Klopp deploy the 23-year-old at the right side of defence.

Keita is not afraid of making tackles and he is equally good at turning defence into attack much more than James Milner.

Nathaniel Clyne

Injuries and loss of form have made the England international drop down the pecking order. He was an influential figure in his first two seasons at Anfield but his injury woes ultimately halted is growing reputation among the club’s supporters.

However, he’s back to full fitness and he’s ready for action if called upon on Sunday.

Clyne is definitely a quality left-back but can he be trusted to do a perfect job against his countryman?

Irrespective of Clyne’s fitness level ahead of Sunday’s clash, Klopp must carefully examine the options available before he publicly reveals his starting lineup.

A win will see the Reds remain at the summit of the League table, while a defeat will see them drop to the second position, should Manchester City defeat their opponents later today
