According to a report in the Express, Liverpool have entered the race to sign Monaco youngster Thomas Lemar this summer after Arsenal saw their latest £50m offer for the attacker turned down by the Ligue 1 club.

The youngster has developed into one of the most highly-rated young forwards in Europe after netting 14 goals and making a further 17 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season.

Lemar, 21, has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates with The Sun claiming last week that Arsenal had finally reached a breakthrough in negotiations following lengthy discussions with AS Monaco.

The publication even claimed Lemar has already agreed to personal terms over his transfer to Arsenal, so it seemed only a matter of time before Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would be unveiling his third major signing of the summer transfer window.

Wenger is in the transfer market for attacking players amid on-going doubts over the future’s of Chilean Alexis Sanchez, and Englishman Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lemar looks to be the player he wants.

However, it’s believed that a transfer fee is yet to be agreed on with, the Ligue 1 Champion, and the Express reports that after seeing their latest £50m bid turned down by Monaco, Arsenal may now face fierce competition to sign the French international.

The publication is quoting a report from Le10 Sport that claims the Reds have entered the race to sign Lemar after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp identified him as the ideal potential replacement for departing Philippe Coutinho.
