Liverpool fans are still expecting new legs to be signed before the end of the summer transfer window, but the Anfield club are having difficulties completing deals for some of their top targets – one of which is Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk.
However, the Daily Mail are reporting that the Reds have received a big boost in their pursuit of the Netherlands international as his club are now thinking about adapting to life without him.
It was reported that the Saints have now identified Spurs defender Kelvin Wimmer as a good replacement for the Dutchman once the need to replace him arises.
Liverpool have been linked with Van Dijk for much of this summer but the south coast club remains adamant and made it known that they are not interested in selling their skipper.
Earlier this summer, Liverpool were forced to issue an apology to Southampton after the Saints threatened to report them to the premier league for approaching the player illegally.
There is now peace between the two clubs after Liverpool, in their apology, promised to draw their attention from the player.
However, Van Dijk himself desire to make a move away from Southampton and has made it known to his club, with Liverpool understood to be his preferred destination.
And it is now reported that Jurgen Klopp’s side are ready to table a bid once the Saints give the green light.
