According to The Sun, Merseyside giant Liverpool are still interested in signing Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton although London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are also eyeing the Dutchman.
The Reds have since been the most determined suitor, and are keen on a staggering £60 million contract.
Dijk got his first major break in Britain when he signed for Celtic in 2013. The Dutch played superbly well and became indispensable for the side in no time.
The defender who has bee often compared to Ex-United star Rio Ferdinand for his style of play, the center-back signed for Southampton back in 2015.
Since joining the Saints, the Dutchman has been rock solid at the back for Southampton and gradually cemented himself as one of the dependable center-halfs in the Premier League, which called the attention of top clubs like League Champions Chelsea, rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.
Liverpool were thought to be leading the race after the defender reportedly confirmed to wanting to join the Reds. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side were thought to have used an unlawful means to approach the Dutchman following which his side threatened to file a complaint to authorities, which prompted Liverpool to submit an apology.
Finding a reliable partner for Centre half Joel Matip looks to be the need of the hour for Jurgen Klopp since Lovren and Klavan have struggled with consistency.
