The defender who has bee often compared to Ex-United star Rio Ferdinand for his style of play, the center-back signed for Southampton back in 2015.

Since joining the Saints, the Dutchman has been rock solid at the back for Southampton and gradually cemented himself as one of the dependable center-halfs in the Premier League, which called the attention of top clubs like League Champions Chelsea, rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

Liverpool were thought to be leading the race after the defender reportedly confirmed to wanting to join the Reds. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side were thought to have used an unlawful means to approach the Dutchman following which his side threatened to file a complaint to authorities, which prompted Liverpool to submit an apology.
