According to reports in England, Liverpool have granted former Arsenal star Gael Clichy a two-year deal.
The 31-year-old was released by Pep Guardiola’s side Manchester City just at the conclusion of the campaign, and he is said to be presently weighing up his options
The French left-back made 24 starts in the English top flight last term and his team finished third in the Premier League. This, of course, is a good indication that he still has the capacity to operate at the top side.
And according to The Sun, the new deal at Liverpool would expire in 2019, and would also have an option for an additional year.
During the season, Gael Clichy has more appearances at left-back than any other player in Pep Guardiola’s team.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been on the lookout for a standard left-back in his squad. In the just concluded season, the German boss got no choice but to deploy one of his midfielders James Milner in the position.
Although James performed well above average in the role, Klopp would prefer a specialist for next season.
Even though Klopp has another option in Alberto Moreno, there are serious doubts over his quality, whereas the boss is seeking a superb team for next season Champions League.
