Liverpool may consider £30m fee as Serie A giant eye Frenchman

Mamadou Sakho

The Sun reports on Sunday that AS Roma have made an approach for Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho, but they will have to pay around £30m to prise him away from Anfield.

The France international fell out with Jurgen Klopp last summer when he was sent home from their pre-season training tour of America after breaking some club rules, and he hasn’t featured for the Reds since.

Sakho, 27, spent the second-stanza of last campaign on loan at Crystal Palace and he made a huge impression, helping Palace narrowly avoid the drop to the Championship by helping to strengthen their defence line.

Despite that, the Center-back doesn’t look to have a future at the club, and along with Crystal Palace, AS Roma have now registered their interest in the defender, who the publication on Sunday will only be allowed to depart for £30m.

Sakho proved to be an influential addition to a leaky back line with Crystal Palace conceding just a Premier League goal – away at Chelsea – in Sakho’s first four matches for the south London club.

Sakho went on to make a further four appearances before picking up a ligament injury in the loss to Tottenham at home in April, which saw him sit out the remainder of the season.

Having made 49 clearances in those eight matches, he certainly made a decisive contribution.

The Reds also certainly may have issues convincing the likes of AS Roma to pay £30m for a player whose suitors know that his club is keen to sell, and it remains to be seen whether they will compromise to offload before the transfer window closes next month.
