Liverpool shareholder tells club to sell Brazilian to Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho

Famous Liverpool shareholder, basketball star LeBron James have told the Merseysiders to cash in on Brazil international midfielder Philippe Coutinho and let him join FC Barcelona this summer transfer window.

The Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball star became a shareholder at the Anfield club back in 2011.

According to Mundo Deportivo, James has told FSG he thinks they should negotiate with FC Barcelona and let him leave the club before the summer transfer window closes next week.

The attacking midfielder has been the subject of three formal bids from La Liga giants Barcelona, with each one, turned down by the Reds as they look to keep their most prized asset.

Barcelona are thought to be preparing one last bumper-money bid, an offer that will exceed the £97 million they paid for Ousmane Dembele.

The Reds are still hoping to keep hold of the Brazilian, though Coutinho – having already submitted a transfer request – has now told the club to omit him from their UEFA Champions League squad.

The former Inter Milan attacker has missed Liverpool’s opening English Premier League matches, and their UEFA Champions League playoffs, due to a back problem and a virus.

LeBron James is known to be a huge fan of FC Barcelona – more so than the Merseyside club, despite being a stakeholder at the club.

James posted a photo of himself in the club’s new kit on Instagram, but deleted it shortly after, while the Basketball star has visited Barcelona’s training ground, and partied with Barca players including Lionel Messi, severally.
