Pat Nevin has praised Liverpool for their high press game, but also warned the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp that his players will struggle to carry out that tactics for 90 minutes.
In the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool were very much regarded as the best side in the opening 45 minutes after James Milner scored the opener from the penalty spot following Paul Pogba’s handball.
However, Mourinho’s men managed to get something of a stranglehold on the clash as Liverpool’s energy levels started to fluctuate before the introduction of Philippe Coutinho. And then, Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised for the hosts with just six minutes remaining to get a point for United and extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Liverpool will meet Swansea City at Anfield next weekend for their next premier league game, and they are still five points ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United.
However, Nevin speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, issued a warning to Jurgen Klopp over his players’s ability to carry out the high press for 90 minutes. He confessed that he was really impressed with Liverpool, how they chased things and how they closed down for the first 50-60 minutes. But he thinks they can’t do it for 90 minutes, as, according to him, “Time and again it catches up with them.”
