Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dropped some hints that he would have tried to land Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku for his own side during the summer transfer window, assuming they stood a chance of getting the player’s signature ahead of the Old Trafford club.
Lukaku moved to Man United from Everton for a whopping £75 Million during the summer transfer window, despite that he was widely expected to return back to his former club Chelsea.
He has, however, make a superb start to his career at Manchester United by scoring nine times in his first eight games for his new side, and has created an early record better than that of some of the club’s legends including Ruud van Nistelrooy and Eric Cantona.
Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, was only able to bolster his attack department by bringing in Dominic Solanke from Chelsea to come join the likes of Firmino and Daniel Sturridge at Anfield.
Solanke has played only 54 minutes in the Premier League so far this campaign for the Merseyside club.
And the German boss Jurgen has defended his decision to not sign a big top striker during the summer, but admits title rivals including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have done well in that aspect.
“For [Liverpool] the market was not really there. We had no chance for Lukaku – which would have been an interesting move.” the manager said.
