Kepa To The Rescue: How Chelsea Stopper Was The Hero In UEL Tie vs Frankfurt

 Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was the hero for the Blues who needed penalty shootout to see off an impressive Eintracht Frankfurt team in their semifinal tie.

Kepa made two big saves during the penalty shootout to send Chelsea into the 2019 UEFA Europa League (UEL) final at the expense of German Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Both sides had played a 1-1 draw in the first leg and that turned out to be the scoreline for the second leg after regulation and extra time.

Hosts Chelsea took the lead in the second leg through the in-form Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 28th minute to give his team a 2-1 lead on aggregate at that point.

Eintracht Frankfurt have undoubtedly been the surprise team of the tournament with star striker Luka Jovic scoring goals for fun and it was the Serbian striker that breached the Chelsea rearguard for the equaliser just after the halftime interval.

Both teams played 1-1 after regulation time and Chelsea had David Luiz to thank for making a last-ditch clearance during extra time to preserve the draw for his team this taking the game into the dreaded penalties.

Eintracht Frankfurt missed their last two penalties to hand Chelsea a 4-3 win and a final meeting with London rivals Arsenal in Baku later this month.
