Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been fined for his part in the meltdown that overshadowed their Carabao Cup final clash with holders Manchester City on Sunday.
Spanish international Kepa has been fined a week’s wages after he refused to be substituted in the extra time of the aforementioned game.
Kepa went down with an injury during extra time and that prompted Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri into making a substitution for him only for the goalkeeper to refuse to come off for penalty specialist Willy Caballero.
Italian tactician Sarri wanted Caballero to replace Kepa towards the end of extra time.
Ex-Napoli boss Sarri became furious with his goalkeeper as a result of his refusal to exit the game.
In the end, Kepa finished the game and he was in goal as Chelsea lost 4-3 on penalties to defending champions Manchester City after both sides played out a goalless draw at the end of regulation time and extra time.
Chelsea released statements over the situation from both Kepa and Sarri on Monday night.
Kepa Arribazalaga apologised for his behaviour and also confirmed that he has tendered his apology to the coach and his teammates.
On his part, Sarri revealed that he has sorted out the situation with the former Athletic Bilbao shot stopper.
