Schalke star defender Benedikt Howedes has been recently linked with both Liverpool and Juventus following his impressive performances at the Bundesliga club.
In a new development, however, it appears Liverpool will miss out on his signature following reports from Calcio Mercato that Serie A champions Juventus have agreed on personal terms with the player and are set to bring him to Turin before the end of the transfer window.
The window is closing next Thursday and Liverpool are yet to bring in at least one centre-back – even when it is obvious they need one. German manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to have an eye in the market to bring in a big upgrade to the likes of Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan as their mistakes played a role in the club’s inability to win the premier league trophy last season.
Additionally, it appears a move for long-term target Virgil Van Dijk won’t materialise anymore this summer as the player looks like he is staying with the Saints despite heavy speculations of his desire to leave. And the recent report about Howedes looking set to join Juve will also be a big blow to the Reds.
The Turin-based club were looking to fill the void opened by Leonardo Bonucci this summer following the Italian’s move to AC Milan, and it appears 29-year-old Benedikt will be the man to do the job. The defender has become an important member in the Schalke team and won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
