Manchester United are considering a swoop for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, according to reports.
United boss Jose Mourinho is understood to be preparing a summer move for a new central midfielder that will consolidate the efforts of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in the midfield.
The duo of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier and Chelsea star Nemanja Matic both linked with a move to Old Trafford with reports that the latter fancies a reunion with Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho believed Matic could be the last missing jigsaw in his midfield, after seeing him play under him during his second stint with Chelsea but there are reports that the Portuguese boss is getting frustrated at slow transfer activity and wants to move for an alternative.
Reports in the Daily Mail claim that Mourinho has told the club to approach Borussia Dortmund about the possibility of signing Julian Wiegl this summer.
It is understood that Borussia Dortmund will request for a fee around £44 million for the services of the 21-year-old whose contract at the Bundesliga side runs till 2021.
However, Manchester United will have to beat Manchester City to Wiegl’s signature with reports that City boss Pep Guardiola is also a keen admirer of the midfielder’s abilities
