Man United manager Jose Mourinho says he fears the worse over the extent of the injury his star defender Eric Bailly picked up in the humiliating 4-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The Ivorian was taken off in the 52nd minute after trying to block Eden Hazard who was through on goal in a tackle that suggest he might have damaged his knee.
He was able to walk off the pitch with some discomfort and was replaced by Marcos Rojo.
And Mourinho has revealed Bailly who joined United from Villarreal has suffered a serious knee ligament damage
“He is injured and I am afraid he is badly injured,” the The Portuguese said. “In his knee, in the ligament area. He feels that it is really bad.”
There are doubts about Marouane Fellaini who was replaced at half time by Juan Mata, after he was brushed by David Luiz in the second half, but the Brazilian was lucky not to have been shown a red card but got a yellow instead.
Mourinho gave his view on the injury Felliani sustained.
“If I’m going to say that he was injured, you are going to say again…,” he said. “It was a bit of both (tactical and injury).”
United next face City rivals Manchester City in the EFL Cup, and hope to bounce back to winning ways again when they play hosts to Burnley in the League.
Wayne Rooney still a major doubt for United after he picked up an injury in training.
“Rooney got injured in training in the last session,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“He was so keen to play against Fenerbahce that he hid it and then he felt it in the training session and he couldn’t come.”
Mourinho and United will hope they can get back on track and hope for the best on the treatment table.
