Manchester United pair of Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw both didn’t travel to Ukraine with the team for their clash against Zorya in a Europa League game, due to injuries.
Since his poor performance against Chelsea where United lost to a disgracing 4-0, Smalling hasn’t feature for Man United yet. Luke Shaw, on the other hand, was taken off at half-time against West Ham in the 4-1 EFL Cup win and Mourinho didn’t include him in the Everton game.
Since that game, no vital information has been released about Smalling’s situation. Rumour has it that he may well still be recovering from a broken toe, even if United has taken a different stance on whether that injury exists.
Manchester United stated on their official website:
“Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw remain unavailable as they recover from injury, while Bastian Schweinsteiger is ineligible as he was not registered in United’s initial Europa League squad.”
However, some are of the opinion that even if the duo are fully fit, United boss Jose Mourinho may decide leaving them back home in Manchester because of the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Nevertheless, everyone prefer having a clear picture about what is on ground.
Though Luke Shaw is having a stop-start return from a serious injury, it is projected that he will be afforded plenty of time and patience to overcome that leg break. Chris Smalling on the other hand, though one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League last season who become one is struggling this season under Mourinho, will as well get lots of opportunities to impress.
