Hit or miss – How well have Liverpool’s summer signings fared

Liverpool fans

During the summer transfer window, Jurgen Klopp spent a whopping sum of £175m to upgrade his squad by signing more quality players.

Having spent such a huge amount of money, it wasn’t a surprise seeing that the Merseyside club are yet to taste defeat in the League after 12 round of matches.

However, things haven’t gone well for some of Klopp’s new recruitment as they are finding it hard to adapt to the new environment and new style of play. Some also are justifying the huge amount spent on their signature with constant awesome displays.

Let’s quickly give a review of how Klopp’s summer signings have fared so far this season.

Allison Becker (£66.8m)

The former Roma goalie was immediately integrated into the team as the first choice following the Loris Karius blunders and departure.

The Brazilian became the world’s most expensive goalie, however, it was a short-lived one as Chelsea’s young goaltender Kepa Arrizabalaga grabbed the record following his big-money move from Athletico Bilbao.

Since his move to Anfield Stadium, Allison has featured in 14 matches in all competitions, keeping 6 clean sheets in the process.

His understanding with his defenders continue to blossom and his calmness in front of danger was one of his strongest prowess.

His reflexes and confidence level are the other characteristics that make him differ from all the goalies who have manned Liverpool’s goal in recent years.

So far so good, Allison Becker have been an inspirational figure for Jurgen Klopp’s team and the Reds will definitely rely on him on their mission to end their six years trophy drought.

Naby Keïta (£54m)

The Guinean was signed from RB Leipzig in January with the agreement that he would link up with the team at the closing stages of last season.

Despite the agreement, the Bundesliga side failed to keep their own part of the bargain as they held on to the player’s service till the start of this campaign.

Just like his fellow recruit, Keita was integrated into the starting lineup by Klopp and the player didn’t look out of place.

His pace, tactical awareness and untiring runs were all that was needed by the Reds to win four consecutive matches, though, he didn’t score in any of those matches.

After taking the League by storm, the 23-year-old seems to have taken his foot off the pedal as he hasn’t been getting a regular game time of late.

He’s played just six League matches and four Champions League games. He really needs to up his game as soon as possible.

Xherdan Shaqiri (£13.5m)

The Swiss joined Liverpool from championship side Stoke City.

He wasn’t rated by Klopp from the start as he was frequently left out of matchday squad by the German manager.

After some round of fixtures, the 27-year-old began to find his way into the starting lineup due to a series of awesome displays.

He has scored two League goals from eight matches, though, he needs to double his efforts to remain in Klopp’s plan for the rest of the season.

Fabinho (£40m)

He’s yet to reach his full potential with the Reds but he’s shown glimpses of brilliance.

He needs some time and impressive performance to gain Klopp’s trust and confidence as the season progress. He has played just three games and he’s yet to find the back of the net
