Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists that his star striker Diego Costa is “happy” to remain at Chelsea for the long-term.
Last month, the Spanish superstar was heavily linked with a transfer to the Chinese Super League following a reported row with the Italian coach and Chelsea’s fitness coach – an incident which very briefly threatened to derail Chelsea’s season. A situation where the Stamford Bridge club traveled to face Leicester City without the 28-year-old, as he had been excluded from the squad.
And in the post-match press conference at King Power Stadium which focused almost solely on Diego Costa, the former Juventus manager continually refused to say that he wanted to retain the centre-forward.
However, as things stand now, it seems the pair have resolved their differences within days, and the Spain international has continued to shine.
So far this season, the talented attack has scored 15 times in the Premier League and is currently second only to Romelu Lukaku who has scored 16 times for Everton. He has helped his side to surge to a nine-point lead at the top of the table.
Conte while reflecting on the transfer speculation told the BBC’s Premier League Show that the situation is now calm as Costa is a really important player.
“The situation is very clear. He’s very happy to stay and very happy to fight for the title.“
“Yeah, I think [he will stay for a long time]. I see him every day, I see his commitment, his behavior. He loves this club.”
