Forget Morata’s fine form, Chelsea need new goal poacher to compete for trophies

Alvaro Morata

Five goals in 11 matches, that sums up the great evolution Morata is currently enjoying under Maurizio Sarri.

The much-criticized striker was in his worst form throughout last season scoring just 11 goals from
31 League matches.

His awful form saw him dropped to the bench by Antonio Conte towards the end of last season. He was equally said to be considering a return to Real Madrid or Juventus before the start of this season.

However, the sacking of Antonio Conte was the turning point for the Spaniard who is now in fine and rich goalscoring form.

Conte’s replacement, Maurizio Sarri was quick to help the star return to form as his words of encouragement and tactical approach were all that Morata needed to become the great player he used to be when was at Juventus two seasons ago.

Despite Morata’s return to form, Sarri requires a deadly goal poacher in January before his team can challenge Manchester City for the Premier League glory.

Pedro, Willian and Hazard are wingers, their objectives are to create goalscoring opportunities for centre-forwards, though, they can score goals too. They shouldn’t be held responsible whenever the team fail to score goals.

Hazard’s recent dip in form is another signal that Sarri needs to add a consistent goalscorer to his starting eleven as soon as the January transfer market opens.

The versatile Belgian has been in fine form this season but he is presently experiencing some less-inspiring form which could be caused as a result of fatigue and tiredness.

Victor Moses, who was deployed as wing-back during Conte’s regime, has been clearly told by Sarri that his services are not needed and he is surplus to requirements.

The Blues are now left with only three active wingers in the team, a situation which is completely absurd considering the upcoming hectic fixtures.

Former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is still a member of the team though, but how often will he feature remains a question that must be answered by Maurizio Sarri.

The 32-year-old has seen himself dropped down the pecking order since Morata returned to form and he might be tempted to leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular first-team actions.

Should he remain at Chelsea for the rest of this season, is it certain Giroud will score a double-digit goal this term.

Sarri should never gamble with Olivier Giroud, else, he might regret his decision by the end of the season because the Frenchman is not a consistent goalscorer and has never shown a sign of deadly striker since he joined the team.

Reuben Loftus-Cheek? The youngster is no doubt a great talent but is he capable of scoring goals that can trouble City in the race for the title.

It was a great surprise that Conte retained him prior to the start of this season despite sending Tammy Abraham and Mitchy Batshuayi on loan.

The youngster hasn’t been involved in many matches so far and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change any time soon.

If I’m not asking too much, a move for Bayern’s unsettled striker Robert Lewandowski will be very much appreciated by the Blues faithful.

The striker was linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer transfer market but nothing materialized.

With the recent uncertainty surrounding the Polish’s future at the Allianz Arena, Sarri has a great chance to convince him of a move to Chelsea in January
